Proving Des Moines is NOT boring

May 30th, 2015: Great Day to Live in Des Moines, Part One

I have had May 30th, 2015, blocked off on my calendar for a year now.  I have two events on May 30th that I have known about for the last year and have planned to be a part of all year long. First, I made a promise to myself last year that in 2015 I would run Dam to Dam again. Dam to Dam starts at 7 AM on May 30th and now that I have signed up, I will be honoring my promise to myself.

As she is a member of one of Grimes Superstars competition teams, she will be performing in both the 1:30 PM show and the 6 PM show. I should be done with my race a little after 9 AM (hopefully). We will have to start hair and make-up no later than 11:30 AM. Together, D2D and dance will make for a full day.

That is why I have been so disappointed in the last several months to learn that a couple of my absolute favorite events in Des Moines, as well as a few new ones, are also being scheduled on May 30th. I will have to miss to every single one of them. So while there is a lot of fun to be had in Des Moines all May long, I plan to devote the next several weeks of blogging to everything I will be missing in Des Moines on May 30th, 2015. If your calendars are more open than mine, I have PLENTY of options for you!

This week I will be telling you about a little festival being held in Des Moines on May 30th. This little festival happens to be celebrating one of my favorite beverages (actually, not one of….it is my favorite.) Yes, Saturday, May 30th at Principal Park will be Cityview’s Brewfest 2015! You may be aware of my passion for beer. This event brings together 400 varieties of beer, food, music and lots of people who like to drink beer, all in the shelter of Principal Park. Brewfest offers attendees the opportunity to purchase VIP tickets which gets you in the door at 1 PM for only $40. If you are willing to forgo VIP status, you may enter at 2 PM for only $30 when purchased in advance, or $35 at the door. I highly recommend the VIP tickets as you can get a jump start on your beer tasting while avoiding the crowds.

But I will not be at Brewfest 2015. Between 1-5 PM that day I will be at my first dance recital of the day. Beer aficionados of Des Moines, please promise to stand in for me and enjoy some delicious beer samples in my honor. In the next couple of weeks I will be providing you options of where to go after Brewfest shuts down for the day. May 30th, 2015 is a great day to be in Des Moines. I know I plan to have fun! I hope the rest of you will as well!
